Don't trust contractors!?

Updated: Nov 24, 2021

It is not surprising that many home owners face it challenging to hire the right contractor for the job. Hiring a contractor to work on your house is a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. The goal is to hire a quality contractor that you can trust to complete your project efficiently while ensuring the outcome is functional and looks great. Getting the job done right the first time will save money on future repairs or adjustments. Knowing how to hire a contractor, and how to find the right one for you, will help make your project a success!

So how do you find the right contractor for the job ?

Before hiring a general contractor, ask them questions to be sure they are the right fit. When

meeting with potential contractors, follow a checklist and ask:

  • How long has you company been in business?

  • What experience do you have with this type of project/can i view past photos of similar projects?

  • Do you have the necessary permits/licenses for instance CIDB ?

  • Are you able to provide references?

  • Do you provide a breakdown cost/itemised cost?

  • What is the timeline for this project and would you state that in the contract?

  • Can i view your ongoing work to inspect the quality or view your show house if you have one?

So here are the don'ts !

  • Going with the lowest quote

  • It's advisable not to haggle too much on pricing! Everyone is here to Cari Makan lah. You may get the lowest price but you also risk the possibility of the contractor cutting corners resulting in a poor quality workmanship. We encourage you to get a few quotes instead and go with the one that sits well with you and offers a reasonable price & provides references.

You can never get the best quality work at the lowest cost! When making a decision about your home renovations, it is important to practise due diligence. If you don't follow the steps suggested then just hope you are lucky to have made the right decision & have your fingers crossed that your contractor can complete the job based on your expectations 😊.
